The Roy Oswalt deal went through for the Phillies yesterday as they sent J.A. Happ along with Anthony Gose and Jonathan Villar to the Astros.

Gose was a key to the deal as the Astros immediately sent him to the Blue Jays for prospect Brett Wallace. Gose is a 19 year old outfielder with great speed and potential. Wallace was to be the Blue Jays future 1st baseman with Lyle Overbay being a free agent at seasons end.

Wallace was hitting .301 with 18 homers and 61 rbi’s in AAA and appears to be the heir apparent to Lance Berkman.

The Twins captured Matt Capps from the Nats for catcher Wilson Ramos. He was considered the Twins best trade prospect and impressed the team with his defense.

The Nats also received relief pitcher Joe Testa. With Capps being the closer, Jon Rauch will go back to setup duties.

The Padres scooped Miguel Tejada from the Orioles for pitcher Wynn Pelzer. Pelzer is pitching AA and has not impressed too much. I’m not sure about the Orioles choice of prospects here.

The Rangers acquired Jorge Cantu from the Marlins for pitcher Omar Poveda and relief pitcher Evan Reed. Reed has been pitching very well in AA. Poveda was the key to the deal. He had Tommy John surgery and won’t be available until next season. But he is a top of the line pitching prospect.

The Rangers sent Chris Davis back to AAA to make room for Cantu.

Roy Oswalt agreed to waive his no-trade clause, a source said Thursday, clearing the way for the coveted ace to be traded from the Houston Astros to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Phillies will send J.A. Happ, minor-league outfielder Anthony Gose and minor-league shortstop Jonathan Villar to the Astros in exchange for Oswalt, according to a source. FOXSports.com confirmed Wednesday that the two teams had agreed to a deal, which was first reported by Fox 26 in Houston, that only hinged on Oswalt’s approval of the deal.

The Phillies will also receive $11 million in the deal.

Oswalt is a three-time All-Star and has finished in the top five of the National League MVP voting five times in 10 career seasons, all with the Astros. The two-time 20-game winner is having his worst season record-wise at 6-12. His 3.42 ERA was 18th in the National League at the start of Thursday’s play.

Gose, 19, was the Phillies’ second-round pick in 2008, and their No. 6 prospect according to Baseball America. A player with great speed, he batted .263 with four home runs and 20 RBIs at High Class A Clearwater, with 36 stolen bases in 63 attempts.

Villar, also 19, was signed by the Phillies out of the Dominican Republic, and their No. 22 prospect according to BA. A switch-hitter, he batted .272 with two home runs and 36 RBIs at Low Class A Lakewood, with 38 stolen bases in 51 attempts.
